New Animes of 2018 to Watch

As 2018 rounds to a close, we decided it was best to take a few minutes to look back on the best new animes of 2018. 2018 brought a lot of great new anime to our screens, but some definitely outshone the others. From musical comedies to adventure stories, 2018 brought it all.

Here are our picks for the new animes of 2018 you absolutely must watch:

Violet Evergarden

Violet Evergarden is based off the light novel series by Kana Akatsuki. It was recently adapted into a 13-episode anime television series and aired from January to April of 2018.

Violet Evergarden is the story of the Auto Memory Dolls, specifically Violet Evergarden, who were created during the war to assist Dr. Orland’s blind wife in writing her novels. The Auto Memory Dolls, including Violet Evergarden, were rented out after the war for other services. The story follows Violet as she attempts to assimilate back into society in search for a purpose after the war.

Aggretsuko is a bit of a lighter show than Violet Evergarden. This 2018 Netflix show follows the life of a 25-year old frustrated accountant. Annoyed with her co-workers and tedious job, she takes out his frustration by singing death metal at a karaoke bar nightly.  The show centers around her daily frustrations.

Cells at Work!

Cells at Work! was adapted to an anime television series in 2018. It was initially a Japanese manga series written by Akane Shimizu. The story takes place within the human body following the two protagonist characters - a rookie red blood cell and a relentless white blood cell.

The story follows their adventures, or should we say misadventures, to keep the body safe from harm.
