Funko POP figures are extremely popular today among geeks of all types, with designs available for nearly every character in every minor and major franchise. However, some figures are easier to find than others, with rarer figures costing as much as $1,000 or more. If you happen to own one or more of the following rare figures, you may be sitting on a small fortune. Funko POP value will vary greatly from figure to figure, but any collector should be proud to claim ownership of one of these rare figures.
Figures that combine both Star Wars and rarity are likely to be of high Funko value. This particular figure was released in 2011 at the San Diego Comic Con, with only 480 figures ever made. While many collectors may want this figure as fans of Star Wars, they’re equally likely to want to own this one because of their need for any rare Funko piece. Because of the combined popularity of both rare Funko figures and Star Wars, this figure is among the most expensive you’ll find, with a price tag of up to $1,500.
If the name doesn’t make it clear, Freddy Funko is the mascot of Funko. Subsequently, there are many Freddy Funko-themed figures available out there, with certain figures depicting the poster boy as everything from favorite franchise characters to generic football players.
It’s the ones where he’s made to look like popular characters that are the rare figures with a high Funko POP value. Characters such as Kylo Ren and the Ninja Turtles are typically exclusive to the San Diego Comic Con during the Funko Fun Days event. While some figures are among a release of 480, some only have as little as 12 models available, which will likely cost thousands.
These are only officially available to employees at Hot Topic as rewards for good job performance, which means they’re never actually up for sale at any Hot Topic or other retail location. This is what makes obtaining these extremely special. With figures such as Harley Quinn only available in 144 characters and others such as Batman with even fewer, your only bet at getting your hands on one of these is to find them on the second hand market, unless you really want to work at Hot Topic just for these.
The man behind Marvel—and thus indirectly behind the line of Marvel Funko POP figures—has his own Funko figures. While there are many variants of Stan Lee figures available out there on the market, the rarest are definitely the gold and platinum editions, with only 10 of each in existence.
Originally distributed by stanleecollectibles.com, the actual Funko value of these figures is unknown, but sets have been sold on platforms such as eBay for as much as $10,000.
2016 saw a particularly Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-themed Funko Fun Days event, with attendees receiving special Funko-branded chocolate bars, four of which containing golden tickets. These tickets allowed the recipient to take a tour of the Funko factory and obtain a special set of figures. The set in question was a two-pack featuring a golden Willy Wonka and Oompa Loompa, with only 10 sets available worldwide.
Only four were given to lucky winners at the event, and it’s assumed the remaining six were handed out to certain Funko employees. While no sale has been made aware to the public, this could change if someone wanted to make a huge profit.
These are some of the rarest Funko POP figures you’ll find (or perhaps won’t, in some cases), and anyone who comes into possession of one or more of these could find themselves sitting on a treasure trove.
